How deep does the rabbit hole go?

When you start asking questions most people are afraid to broach even in their own minds, you often end up with more questions than when you started. Which is probably why most people are afraid of asking these kinds of questions. Because most of us hate unanswered questions. We want certainty in our lives ... it makes us uncomfortable to not have ready answers to things we feel are important.

Then there's those questions that we'd rather not ask ourselves because we secretly know the answer, and we don't like that answer. We're afraid of what that answer would mean. Sometimes that answer means we need to do something we'd rather not do. So we think it's better to just not ask the question.

I must admit I'm more willing to ask the first kind of question than the second kind. But the problem with those first kinds of question is they tend to lead us down "rabbit holes." Like Alice in Wonderland, you see something strange, your curiosity compels you to follow it, and what you find out makes you start questioning everything in your environment ... so now you find yourself literally surrounded by strangeness. This is a very uncomfortable position to be in, for most people. I won't exclude myself from that category, though since I struggle with Attention Deficit Disorder, I'm probably more used to handling the unexpected than most. I'm just not on my guard when it comes to holes. And I've always been impulsively curious.

Asking oneself about what really happened on Sept. 11 2001 can be the entry point to a very deep rabbit hole. [It also has aspects of the type of question I mention in the second paragraph, which makes it doubly hard for people to chew on.] How deep does the rabbit hole go? I don't know, I'm still exploring it, but I can tell you this much ... it goes beyond the 3 dimensions of space we deal with on an everyday basis.

I don't really know where I'm going with this post, or why I'm even posting it. It's just that ... I know I'm not alone concerning this issue, and for those who are struggling with it, I want to let you know that there's at least one person out there that knows how you feel.

Americans ignorant of why they celebrate the 4th of July

I know this is supposed to be funny, but this actually made me want to gag:

"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be." -- Thomas Jefferson

Don't forget about the "wars"

I put "wars" in quotation marks because they are really imperial occupations. But here are some reasons you shouldn't forget about them, though the mainstream media would have you look the other way:

These occupations kill and maim people and destroy families. Iraqis, Afghans, and Americans alike.

They are costing us an unbelievable amount of money: http://costofwar.com

They were started because of lies:

Historic Victory at Oakland Port – Israeli Ship Blocked from Unloading

Once again Oakland activists/longshoremen show us how it's done.

"In a historic action and unprecedented action today, over 800 labor and community activists blocked the gates of the Oakland docks in the early morning hours, prompting longshore workers to refuse to cross the picketlines where they were scheduled to unload an Israeli ship.

"[...] Today’s Oakland action, in the sixth largest port in the United States, is the first of several protests and work stoppages planned around the world, including Norway, Sweden and South Africa. It is sure to inspire others to do the same."

I guess BP wants to kill off all the unemployed fishermen

... they hired to clean up the Gulf by telling them they'll be fired if they wear respirators on the job. That way they won't have to pay out so much in lawsuits ... all the people they've stripped of their livelihoods will be dead. Here's what Light Keeper has to say about the air quality around the Gulf: Serious Toxic Levels of VOC's all around Gulf Coast Region

-- oh, and get this! -- who are they putting in charge of administering BP's $20 billion fund for damage claims to economic victims of the Gulf oil spill? None other than Kenneth Feinberg, Special Master of the 9-11 Victims Compensation Fund! Here's the link at Kenny's Sideshow.

I'm telling you, this BP oil "spill" is looking more and more like 9-11 every day, especially the disastrously unsafe cleanup cover-up.

Why is BP still in charge of fixing things???

I agree with George Washington's assessment: Since BP has Broken Everything It Has Touched, We Must Remove BP from the Crime Scene and Let an International Team of Experts Fix This on BP's Dime.

Why would anyone in their right mind trust BP to fix their own mess in the most honest, efficient, environmentally-friendly way when clearly that might interfere with their bottom line -- indeed the bottom line of *any* corporation -- to make as much money as possible? Corporations don't have a conscience. Indeed the closest thing they come to one is a "responsibility to their shareholders" -- which is, I repeat, to make as much money as possible. So why is anyone surprised that BP would *lie* about how much oil is spilling into the Gulf, when they're the one to pay fines by the gallon? What happens when BP's ability to recover oil clashes with the most effective way to fix and/or clean the gusher? Which of these priorities will fall by the wayside?

Of course BP should foot the bill. But to put them in charge of the cleanup -- well, that's like putting a murderer in charge of cleaning up the crime scene before the evidence is gathered.

When BP spills coffee

If you haven't seen this video yet, it's pretty funny ... :)

Peter Sutherland -- BP, Goldman Sachs, & the Vatican

Whoa! I just read on George Washington's blog that the Chairman of Goldman Sachs was -- until last year -- also Chairman of BP. Someone commented that he's also been the Vatican's financial advisor since 2006. Talk about busy!

Interesting coincidence, isn't it, that all three of those institutions have been in the news lately for making a real big mess of things ...

Who was on Flight 77?

Those of you who have followed my posts over the years might be interested to know that yes, in fact, there was a brief point of time when I (kinda/sorta) accepted the "official" narrative of what happened on Sept. 11, 2001. I don't know if you remember, but just as with the Gulf oil spill, immediately after the disaster there were calls to the general public to send solutions that might fix what went wrong.

Believe it or not, I actually sent the airlines what I thought was a brilliant idea: why not outfit all commercial passenger planes with a remote control override? It would have worked kind of like Onstar's anti-theft vehicle slowdown system (which didn't exist at the time). If a hijacker took over a plane, you could override the manual controls and bring it down from the tower, preventing it from being used to crash into buildings.

Little did I know that this kind of technology had already been developed by Global Hawk, a remote controlled plane being used in Afghanistan. But I soon found out -- a guy named Peter made a project of researching just who was on the passenger list for Flight 77 -- the "plane" that supposedly hit the Pentagon. He posted his initial findings on the news wire for Indymedia.org.

"... Approximately 16 to 21 of the 58 passangers work at classified positions in the defense sector!!!! Look at how many of them are aerospace engineers. One is a lifetime CIA operative who works for veridian as an aerospace engineer, Yamnicky is his last name. The first passenger listed, Caswell, led a team of 100 scientists for the navy. Several work for Boeing and Raytheon on the Global Hawk in El Segundo, California.

"I think many people faked their deaths. Perhaps a remote control center was riding with these folks on the C130 transport plane many witnesses saw at the same time as the missile attack on the pentagon. Here's is the list of people in aerospace/defense/bush associates that were on the plane that disappeared (into the shadow gov?). I'm sorry this is a rough draft, these are all excerpts from AP, Boston Herald, W Post, NYT, and other mainstream sources. The passenger list must be scrutinized to figure out what happenned to the alleged flight 77."

-- [repost at http://portland.indymedia.org/en/2004/10/299484.shtml ]

Peter also mentions right-wing pundit Barbara Olson, wife of George W. Bush's lawyer, Ted Olson. Mrs. Olson supposedly called her husband from her cell phone during the hijacking. Mr. Olson's report of what she said provided the only evidence that "... American 77, which was said to have struck the Pentagon, had still been aloft after it had disappeared from FAA radar around 9:00 AM" and was the only account of the terrorists having used box-cutters.

Personally, I don't think Flight 77 hit the Pentagon at all. The hole in the Pentagon is too small for a Boeing 757 to have hit it, there was no sign of the wreckage of a Boeing 747 after impact, the only footage we have of what happened amounts to 6 ambiguous frames (this from the one of the most heavily monitored areas on the planet), the hairpin turn the plane was supposed to have taken would have been impossible considering the G-force it would have produced, not to mention the fact that the pilot was an amateur, and why didn't the plane just crash through the roof, anyway, instead of hitting a mostly deserted area of the Pentagon that had recently undergone renovations?

Please look into these anomalies -- and discuss them amongst your friends. We're still at war in Afghanistan because of what happened on 9-11, and I'm convinced that what we have been told is not the truth. Our troops and our country deserve nothing less.

Defenders of the Mavri Marmarra

Here is the remarkable account from Ken O'Keefe, former US Marine, Gulf War veteran, and survivor of the Mavi Marmara massacre:

Defenders of the Mavri Marmarra

"We had in our full possession, three completely disarmed and helpless commandos. These boys were at our mercy, they were out of reach of their fellow murderers, inside the ship and surrounded by 100 or more men. I looked into the eyes of all three of these boys and I can tell you they had the fear of God in them. They looked at us as if we were them, and I have no doubt they did not believe there was any way they would survive that day. They looked like frightened children in the face of an abusive father. But they did not face an enemy as ruthless as they."

Sorry, the world's still crazy ...

For the longest time, during the Bush administration, world events started taking such a bizarre turn I couldn't help but wonder if suddenly the majority of our population just went crazy. I mean, the assault on my country's most cherished rights and values was so blatant and outrageous ... and so many people were walking around blind to the ill logic and injustice of it all ... I felt so isolated.

"What's wrong with you people?!!" I wanted to yell. "This country doesn't torture people! This country doesn't roll over and give away its rights like Habeus Corpus and the 4th Amendment and resign itself to be corralled into Free Speech Zones and go to war over lies and let foreign nations dictate what we do ... etc... etc... etc...!!!" And yet more and more intolerably weird stuff kept flying at us, and more and more I felt closed off into the tiniest minority of people who were not only aware of this, but actually *cared*.

Then, finally, after years of frustration and hardship on my part, the rest of my countrymen seemed to wake up to the fact that the wars were hurting our economy, and maybe wiretaps and torture aren't such a good thing, and yeah this Bush guy is kind of a fuck-up -- it's time for a change.

So we got Obama in there, and for a while it seemed as though America (and the world) had regained a bit of its sanity. Sorry to disappoint you, folks. The world's still crazy.

Even though we know the war in Iraq was based on lies, it's still going on. Kids are still dying. Even though we still haven't caught bin Laden after almost a decade, we're still in Afghanistan, in fact, we've escalated the war. We've even expanded our aggression to Pakistan and Yemen. We've still got untried prisoners at Guantanamo Bay. We've allowed privately owned banks to loot the taxpayers without demanding any oversight. We've allowed BP to poison our Gulf Coast for 46 days and now we're even talking about nuking the damn place (isn't that a bit like saying, "your femoral artery is bleeding uncontrollably, we need to cauterize the wound by blowing off your leg"?!!)

And now it turns out that Israel illegally boarded a humanitarian aid ship, shot a 19-year old American in the head 4 times, and our government rushes to that country's defense???

Not long ago, I had a dream that I was the only one awake in a land filled with sleepwalkers doing incredibly dangerous things ... and getting away with them. I can't help but wonder if that dream isn't more real than what I'm experiencing now.

Speaking of the USS Liberty ...

... we're coming up on the 43rd anniversary of Israel's unprovoked attack against this American ship.

Israel guilty of piracy against humanitarian vessels

At least 9 activists have been killed, 50 wounded. No one disputes the unarmed boat boarded by armed Israelis was in international waters. I know at least one of the people with the flotilla -- Col. Ann Wright, who worked on Cindy Sheehan's congressional campaign a couple years ago. She is one of the finest human beings I've ever met, and that's saying a lot.

Once again Israel is playing the victim. You don't just board a ship, guns blazing, in international waters and not expect to be attacked! Despite the kidnapping of American activists on board, the Obama administration shows its true colors and blocks condemnation of Israeli Crimes at a UN Security Council meeting.

Remember the USS Liberty!
