"Enemy Belligerents"???

What kind of evil crap is this? Instead of "enemy combatants", now Senators McCain and Lieberman have a bill that would allow the military to detain U.S. citizens without trial indefinitely. No Miranda rights, no lawyers ... this bill just seems to extend the recent "un-person with no rights" category of "enemy combatant" to Americans.

According to this article by Paul Joseph Watson, "
an individual doesn’t even have to pose a threat to be snatched, detained and interrogated – they can merely be deemed to be of 'potential intelligence value' or come under the vague and sweeping mandate of 'such other matters as the President considers appropriate'."

You call this legislation? Aren't Lieberman and McCain familiar with the Bill of Rights??

Operation Northwoods and "Rebuilding America's Defenses"

[This is from one of my old radio commentaries, in keeping with my commitment to do something for 9-11 truth on the 11th of every month]

Today I want to talk about two important documents which you may or may not have heard anything about ... depending on where you get your news from. You probably won't hear about them from Katie Couric, but they might have been mentioned on 60 minutes -- though certainly not together. You see, by themselves, they're bad enough, but when considered together -- well, people might get ideas.

The first document, which was top secret when it was written in the 60's but has since been de-classified, went by the somewhat bland name "Operation Northwoods." In fact, it's a truly scary bit of brainstorming about "how can we get the public to go for an invasion of Cuba?" Here are various quotes from the document, which was first exposed in James Bamford's book "Body of Secrets": "We could blow up a U.S. ship in Guantanamo Bay and blame Cuba ... casualty lists in U.S. newspapers would cause a helpful wave of national indignation." "We could develop a Communist Cuban terror campaign in the Miami area, in other Florida cities and even in Washington. The terror campaign could be pointed at Cuban refugees seeking haven in the United States ... We could sink a boatload of Cubans en route to Florida (real or simulated). . . . We could foster attempts on lives of Cuban refugees in the United States even to the extent of wounding in instances to be widely publicized."

"Exploding a few plastic bombs in carefully chosen spots, the arrest of Cuban agents and the release of prepared documents substantiating Cuban involvement also would be helpful in projecting the idea of an irresponsible government."
This plan had the written approval of the Chairman and every member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Apparently however, JFK took exception with it.

The second document comes from the Project for the New American Century, or PNAC, which is a neoconservative think tank based out of Washington D.C. Present and former members include the likes of Jeb Bush, Dick Cheney, Scooter Libby, Richard Perle, Donald Rumsfeld, and Paul Wolfowitz. The document in question is a 90-page report called "Rebuilding America's Defenses: Strategies, Forces, And Resources For A New Century." Written in the year 2000, it advocates that America capitalize on her military and economic superiority to gain unchallengeable superiority through all means necessary, including military force. It also recommends the forward redeployment of US forces at new strategically placed permanent military bases. Here are some quotes to that effect: "while the unresolved conflict in Iraq provides the immediate justification [for US military presence], the need for a substantial American force presence in the Gulf transcends the issue of the regime of Saddam Hussein" and "Over the long term, Iran may well prove as large a threat to U.S. interests in the Gulf as Iraq has. And even should U.S.-Iranian relations improve, retaining forward-based forces in the region would still be an essential element in U.S. security strategy given the longstanding American interests in the region".

The quote I'm most interested in is on page 51, under Chapter V, entitled Creating Tomorrow's Dominant Force:

"Further, the process of transformation, even if it brings revolutionary change, is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event, like a new Pearl Harbor.” Keep in mind this was written in September, 2000. Rant time

I was pretty angry this morning -- I yelled at the TV when the blow-dried anchor talked about how Obama was considering trying 9-11 cases under a (no doubt hidden from the public) military tribunal. And recently they pulled out this old chestnut -- the American born "Al Quaida" Adam Gadahn (whose real name is Adam Pearlman, grandson of some big mucky-muck in the ADL, that is, the Anti-Defamation League, which was caught spying on Americans for Israel in 1993 ... I knew about this guy years ago!). I just couldn't believe the newswhores really expected people to swallow this crap ... and I was really really angry because by and large, people do!! In my angrier moments, I feel just like this guy does:

I hate what America has become

Um, does anyone remember there's a war going on?

Something somewhat disturbing happened when I moved from San Francisco to Ft. Wayne ... I started watching television. No big surprise, there ... I moved into a motel and all motels (except the seedy SRO's for the homeless in San Francisco) come standard with TV and cable. Even though an apartment would be cheaper, I never bothered to find one because frankly my references suck and renting by the month suits me -- it discourages hoarding (the bane of my existence in SF), comes with no-fuss furniture and utilities, and I can leave whenever I want to. Unfortunately, it encourages an insidiously bad habit -- watching TV.

My entire adult life has passed without ever having cable, except when I lived in motels. I wouldn't own a TV, either, if it meant I had to buy one. But when you live in a motel, it's right there, front and center, remote control and everything ... and so while I con myself into thinking I have nothing better to do, I flip through the channels and the next thing you know I'm addicted to American Idol, Ghost Hunters and Moonlight marathons. Watching TV re-arranges your frame of what's important and what isn't, and it's pretty obvious in the United States, the "wars" we're supposed to be engaged in are on the very back burners of pop consciousness.

I mean, if you could take someone from 1943 or even 1967 to visit us here in 2010, and then informed them "you know, we're actually involved in two different wars ..." what do you suppose they'd think?? Because, you know, we sure don't act like we're "at war." Yes, we are making sacrifices, but they seem to all be sacrifices of personal liberty, economic oversight, sovereignty ... and they are being exacted so expertly that no one seems to notice too much. It's not like we're being asked to follow rations. We just can't afford to buy the things we need.

No one seems to give a rip about the soldiers overseas, or the people whose land they're occupying. Not on TV, anyway. I hardly ever hear anyone talk about the fact that we're supposed to be at war. Doesn't this seem strange to you? It does to me.

9-11 bloopers

The BBC reported that WTC 7 (the 3rd building that collapsed on 9-11 -- which wasn't hit by a plane, BTW) collapsed a full 23 minutes before it actually did. You can see it clearly in the live feed behind the anchorwoman's head!
