Another US land grab?
Hurricane Katrina slammed into New Orleans on August 29, 2005. I remember it well, because that's my birthday ... which I share with then Senator John McCain. Of course we celebrated it differently. I was living in a homeless shelter and he was having cake with sitting President George W. Bush. The deliberate neglect of the people affected by it was mind-boggling. Help was turned away. Communication lines were cut. There was a concerted effort to clear the 9th ward. Frankly, that's what Asheville, NC reminds me of. It also reminds me of Lahaina, HI and East Palestine, OH.
